Exhausted, out of breath with death on my heels, I run. I run with all of my rapidly diminishing strength. The pounding rain makes it difficult for me to detect my surroundings, each drop feeling like a bullet further shattering my broken body. I guess even the heavens are gunning for me. How could things have gone so horribly wrong? It wasn’t supposed to be like this... The best laid plans. The adrenaline wore off one, maybe two hours ago and I continue on muscles made of fire. My movements are sluggish and clothing weighted down with moisture, I fear mostly of my own blood. With every breath, I inhale more daggers. I know I can’t stop moving but my body will not keep up with my mind forever and I can't continue on willpower alone. But, It’s in my best interest to keep moving through what’s left of this dark abandoned city. I am a mouse trapped in a maze, a rat caught in a trap. One man against what is left of the world... and I am fairing poorly.
